Signature look: Goth-meets-yogi wardrobe, shaggy hair, devil-may-care attitude.
How she compensates for going bare: By screaming at an employee, then hugging, firing and rehiring her (as a form of empowerment).
Marina Rust Connor
Signature look: An interesting neckline, to frame her John Singer Sargent face.
How she compensates for going bare: A slouch worthy of a vintage Irving Penn.
Why we love her: She’s not blond.
Tonne Goodman
Signature look: Northern California meets the Big Apple — white jeans, flats, crisp shirt.
How she compensates for going bare: A whippet-thin figure that would make any model feel like a Panzer.
Why we love her: Vogue fans adore Grace Coddington, but Goodman just won the CFDA’s Eleanor Lambert Award.
Signature look: Church’s oxfords for men, slacks, dark jackets.
How she compensates for going bare: By enveloping her face in a cloud of cigarette smoke.
Why we love her: Since taking over Céline, she’s become the new Helmut Lang.
Julie Gilhart
Signature look: Supershort skirts, major heels.
How she compensates for going bare: A tan and legs that go all the way up to there (the better to trek through
Namibia).
Why we love her: You know all those cool eco-minded designers at Barneys? They wouldn’t be there without her.
I love this. T Magazine featured 5 women of fashion who's daily beauty regime mainly consists of soap and water in No Makeup Required. Considering these powerful, trend-setting women give good face sans makeup, why can't I? Not that I wear a ton of makeup but a bare face - yikes! What about you? Could you go back to basics?{Photo source: T Magazine}

Really cool post! Really cool! These kind of women are my heroes, not vacuous celebs. And it makes me feel better because I only wash my face in the morning with water, seriously, then use astringent. So, there. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, and if you get a chance, pop by and check out my Catherine Deneuve giveaway!
what a great article, all inspiring women!! i honestly hate wearing makeup everyday and would love to go without more often. although, i feel for my job's sake i should wear it! :) i try to skip the foundation on the weekends and stick with just blush and/or mascara.
ReplyDeleteI must admit I'm a soap and water girl about 99% of the time. Much to my co-workers dismay, I'm sure:)
ReplyDeletei do love make up but i don't wear it that much. my daily use consists of blush and voilá! by no means am I Christy Turlington but I feel too heavy and too unme if I were to wear a lot of makeup. Now, for special events I am open to adding a little more.
ReplyDeletei like all the profiles but was confused with the one that says "How she compensates for going bare: By enveloping her face in a cloud of cigarette smoke."
sounds icky to me but i know smoking is big in the fashion industry.
great profiles nonetheless.
I love this. I hate wearing make up but I will admit that I think I look prettier with it (that's sad) but as much as possible I go sans make up. At least Laura Mercier feels like no make up.
ReplyDeleteP.S. thanks for visiting my blog and for leaving a kind comment. Have a great day.
Oh my, I'm not a makeup gal, but none at all? I think I would always look tired!
ReplyDeletenow this sounds right up my alley:)
