Fabulous Bachelorette Party Invites

This beautiful invitation was created by my friend Melissa who is an extremely talented architect and artist. It's colorful, fresh and feminine! Too bad she doesn't have an Etsy shop. Hopefully after all my prodding she will open one and when she does I will be sure to let you all know!

Ferris Bueller House For Sale

This great house located in Highland Park, Illinois, designed by A. James Speyer and David Haid is on the market for $2.3 million! I've always thought my dream house would resemble a house like this...open, modern and surrounded by nature.

Marie & Tom's Wedding

The pictures are finally in and I wanted to share these images with you! I had the privilege to be part of this beautiful wedding a few weekends ago up in Minneapolis. The ceremony was at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the reception was held at St Anthony Main Event Centre hosted by Three Sons Catering (mentioned in the most recent issue of Martha Stewart Weddings). I think the pictures turned out so clean and fresh, perfect for a Spring wedding -- a job well done by Bella Pictures!

Congrats Marie and Tom!

Deliciously Healthy Muffins

I was planning on making my "go-to" chocolate chip cookies tonight until I realized that I didn't have eggs. Instead of running out and picking some up I searched the Internet for an egg-free sweet treat and came across Bethany Frankel's (of Bethany Bakes and Real Housewives of New York) Low Fat Fudge Chocolate Chip Muffins. They turned out great and I do not feel the least bit guilty about eating them! I might try adding some nuts next time around. Check out the recipe here.

Recipe: Fish Sticks

I tried out a new recipe over the weekend and it turned out great. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoy seafood and instead of turning to our usual salmon or shrimp recipes I tried a recipe from Martha Stewart's Everyday Food. I used Andy's Fish Seasoning out of St Louis, MO for the breading because I couldn't find Panko at the grocery store. The breading turned out great, it wasn't as heavy as I had anticipated. I paired the fish sticks with our leftover "go to" pasta (also an MS Everyday Food recipe) for a very satisfying meal! I can't wait to make them again for dinner or as an appetizer.

Where do your potato chips come from?

Frito Lay's (which also owns Pepsi) kicked of a new marketing initative, "Lays Local" campaign, which will highlight five potato farmers who contribute to the two billion potato chips the company produces each year. You may be familiar with the current Lays commercials "Fireworks" that foreshadowed this recent initative. The company has obviously invested a lot of money in this, I think their new website is very consistent with the messaging their putting out to the masses and has potential to make an impact.

As consumers demand more and more local products it is a given that companies have to supply them. However, the New York Times raises the question...is local the same as locale? Does it matter to you where your potato chips come from? And how close? You can read the full article here.

Marketing to the Modern Women

I came across this article, "Marketing to the Modern Women" that features marketing-to-women expert, Kelley Murray Skoloda of Ketchum Marketing. In her new book, "Too Busy to Shop: Marketing to 'Multi-Minding' Women" Skoloda argues that the majority of women are too busy to absorb traditional forms of communication. She goes on to say that it is increasingly imporant for businesses to build relationships with women through social media such as Facebok and Twitter. Having worked at a marketing-to-women agency I fully believe that if a business meets women's expectations they will exceed men's. I look forward to picking up her book. You can buy it online here.

Rock & Gold

A friend of mine introduced me to this beautiful jewlery designer. All of Rock and Gold's pieces are simple, yet stricking due to her use of high quality metals and semi-precious stones. I think they would make the perfect bridesmaid gift for any bridal party. The designer invites custom orders too!! Check out Rock and Gold's Etsy shop here.

"A Wedding Plan for Men"

I came across this great article, A Wedding Plan for Men in the New York Times over the weekend. It's about men making the most of the their wedding planning. The article mentions a great "go-to" website, GroomGroove.com and blog, The Grumpy Groom. I immediately forwarded to all my friends who are in the midst of planning their weddings!

Happy Weekend!

I came across this cocktail recipe for Sweet Relief and cannot wait to try it out! It would be the perfect drink to serve at a Kentucky Derby-themed party this weekend. Doesn't the drink's name sound like one of the 2009 Derby contenders?

  • Muddle three strawberries
  • 1 oz simple sugar (dissolve 3/4 cup sugar in 1/2 cup water over low heat)
  • 2 oz Stolichnaya vodka
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

  • Top with champagne
